Learn More About Ammolite and Ammonite

Ammonite refers to the marine fossil itself, cephalopod that lived millions of years ago. Ammolite refers to the rainbow iridescence that occurs as it is “opalized” over time. Not all ammonites have ammolite formation. However, our lovely pieces are ammonites with ammolite formation. Learn more about ammonites here.

The crystal formations found in ammonites are typically calcite, aragonite, or pyrite. These minerals can form within the chambers of the ammonite shell as the fossilization process occurs. While drusy crystal formations are rare in ammonites, these other types of crystals are more commonly found within the fossilized remains of these ancient cephalopods.

These ammonite fossils are WYSIWYGs.

For those who are unfamiliar with WYSIWYG, it means: What You See Is What You Get. Pieces identified as WYSIWYGs are not a random pull of stones that are similar to the one(s) pictured. Instead, you receive the actual piece that is pictured.
