A Bit About Orange Banded Calcite
Orange banded calcite, also known as honeycomb calcite, is composed of calcium carbonate, the same mineral composition as common calcite. However, orange banded calcite contains impurities such as iron oxide or other minerals that give it its distinctive orange banding pattern. This unique coloration sets it apart from the typical white or colorless appearance of common calcite. In terms of UV reactivity, some calcites exhibit fluorescence under ultraviolet (UV) light due to the presence of trace elements like manganese or lead. These elements can absorb UV light and re-emit it as visible light, causing the calcite to glow in various colors. Calcites that do not contain these specific trace elements will not exhibit UV fluorescence.
In the case of orange banded calcite, it typically does not fluoresce under ultraviolet (UV) light. This is because the orange coloration in orange banded calcite is usually due to impurities like iron oxide or other minerals, rather than the presence of trace elements that would cause fluorescence. The absence of these specific trace elements in orange banded calcite means that it does not exhibit the characteristic glow or fluorescence seen in some other types of calcite that contain those elements. Therefore, orange banded calcite is not known for its UV-reactive properties and does not fluoresce under UV light.

This orange banded calcite moon & stand is a WYSIWYG.
For those who are unfamiliar with WYSIWYG, it means: What You See Is What You Get. Pieces identified as WYSIWYGs are not a random pull of stones that are similar to the one(s) pictured. Instead, you receive the actual piece that is pictured.
