Description

These raw labradorite specimens showcase the stone’s natural beauty, each piece selected for its striking flash. Ranging in weight from 43 to 105 grams, every stone reveals vibrant flashes of color—blues, greens, and even hints of gold—when turned in the light. The raw, unpolished surfaces highlight the natural texture and structure of labradorite, offering a direct connection to how this mineral forms in nature.
Each piece is sold individually, so you can select the one that best fits your collection or project. These specimens are ideal for mineral collectors, geology enthusiasts, or anyone who enjoys the unique visual appeal of natural stones. Their size makes them suitable for display on a shelf, in a collection, or as a tactile accent on a desk.
Labradorite is well-known for its “labradorescence”—the optical effect that creates those stunning flashes of color. These pieces are not only eye-catching but also provide a great example of this phenomenon for educational settings or anyone interested in mineralogy.

These raw labradorite pieces are WYSIWYGs.

For those who are unfamiliar with WYSIWYG, it means: What You See Is What You Get. Pieces identified as WYSIWYGs are not a random pull of stones that are similar to the one(s) pictured. Instead, you receive the actual piece that is pictured.

Labradorescence: What is it Really?

Labradorescence is a unique optical phenomenon exhibited by labradorite and other feldspar minerals, where iridescent flashes of color appear when the stone is viewed from different angles. The colors seen in labradorescence can include vibrant blues, greens, yellows, oranges, pinks, and even purples. This optical effect is caused by light interference within the crystal structure of the mineral, specifically due to the presence of lamellar intergrowths called twinning planes. Lamellar intergrowths are thin, parallel layers or bands of different minerals that are intergrown within a single crystal or rock. These intergrowths can occur due to various geological processes such as cooling and crystallization, exsolution, or deformation. Lamellar intergrowths can create distinctive patterns or textures within minerals, affecting their optical properties and overall appearance. The color variations in labradorescence are created by the diffraction of light as it interacts with these twinning planes, reflecting different wavelengths of light and producing the stunning array of colors observed in labradorite.
