With all of the colors and variation available in gemstone chips, there is almost always a complementary or accent color that will suit your personal style, Southwestern or otherwise.

About Unakite

Unakite is a type of igneous rock that is composed of pink orthoclase feldspar, green epidote, and quartz. The chemical composition of unakite consists of potassium aluminum silicate (orthoclase feldspar), calcium aluminum iron silicate (epidote), and silicon dioxide (quartz). Unakite is formed through the metamorphism of granite, where pink orthoclase feldspar and green epidote are altered and combined over time to create the distinctive mottled appearance of unakite. Unakite is primarily mined in regions with significant granite deposits, such as the United States (specifically North Carolina), South Africa, Brazil, and China. Mining operations extract unakite from quarries and mines, where it is then processed and used in various applications, including jewelry, decorative objects, and lapidary work. What is Metamorphism?

Metamorphism is the process by which rocks undergo changes in mineral composition, texture, or structure due to high temperatures, pressures, or chemical reactions within the Earth’s crust. This process typically occurs deep underground where rocks are subjected to intense heat and pressure, causing them to recrystallize and form new minerals. Metamorphism can occur in response to tectonic forces, such as during the collision of tectonic plates or the subduction of one plate beneath another. The resulting metamorphic rocks can exhibit a wide range of textures and compositions, depending on the specific conditions under which they formed. Examples of metamorphic rocks include marble, slate, schist, and gneiss.
