Hypersthene Chips

Our hypersthene chips add a classic feel to any room, but bring a nice twist with their silvery schiller. Do not be fooled by the pictures, there is no red in the schiller effect. That is the warmth of color found in some of the LEDs used for lighting. These gorgeous chips are tumbled. We have not found this type of gemstone chips very often. We are proud to bring them to our customers. They are perfect for gifting or adding to a collection. Don’t miss out on these beautiful chips!

One of our favorite suggestions for using hypersthene chips in gemstone décor is to add them to a crystal or glass plate, bowl, vase, or other container. You can layer them or use them to surround figurines or other display pieces, too. With all of the colors and variation available in gemstone chips, there is almost always a complementary or accent color that will suit your personal style, Southwestern or otherwise.

What is Hypersthene?

Hypersthene is:

“A discredited species name…

An unnecessary name for a member of Enstatite-Ferrosilite series; name discredited by the CNMMN Pyroxene Subcommittee (1988).
Regarded as a synonym of enstatite or ferrosilite, but commonly regarded as a mid-way member between these two end-members. Most “hypersthene” is ferroan enstatite.”

This captivating mineral belongs to the pyroxene group of silicate minerals. Its chemical formula is (Mg,Fe)SiO₃, indicating a variable composition of magnesium and iron. This mineral is commonly found in igneous and metamorphic rocks, particularly within granitic and gabbroic intrusions.

Hypersthene is sourced from various locations worldwide, including Canada, Australia, China, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom, Norway, and the United States. Its unique properties and striking appearance make it a sought-after mineral for collectors and enthusiasts.
