For those who are unfamiliar with WYSIWYG, it means: What You See Is What You Get. Pieces identified as WYSIWYGs are not a random pull of stones that are similar to the one(s) pictured. Instead, you receive the actual piece that is pictured.

What is Taiji Stone?

AKA Tai Chi/Tai Ji quartz/jade/jasper/stone, yin yang jade

We have done our research and we just do not know what this unique stone is. It does not react with vinegar and it does not scratch easily. Some say it was found in China, others say Japan. Much of what is written on the Internet about this stone is conjecture. Given the test results and information we have found on the Internet that have said that this stone is a banded quartz/jasper or a silicate mineral with impurities, we surmise that it likely falls into some silicate mineral group such as quartz (which includes chalcedony, “jaspers”, etc.), or possibly, feldspar.

What About the Banding?

As you may know, banding styles can help to identify certain minerals. This stone has such uniform banding and that is rarely found elsewhere. With agate, there are lots of swirls and waves. With banded calcite, the banding is more uniform, but not as uniform as it is with this stone. So, it appears that we have a miniature mystery on our hands with this lovely stone. In truth, it may be a weak point, but with normal care, it will be stand the test of time. We tested this piece (and test each piece with theses lines) to be sure.
