Description
Contrary to popular belief, our satin spar bowls are NOT true selenite. Does that mean we are selling fakes? No way! Satin spar and selenite are in the same family—gypsum. However, these are really considered satin spar. Now that you’ve had a miniature geology lesson, why don’t you add one to your cart?
These lovely bowls are perfect for creating a DIY décor piece with your favorite gemstone chips or tumbles. Happy decorating!
Size: Approx. 2.50″ in diameter, 120-150g
More About the Similarities & Differences of Common Gypsum Varieties
Gypsum, satin spar, and selenite are all varieties of the gypsum supergroup, sharing similar chemical compositions but differing in their physical characteristics. Gypsum is a soft sulfate mineral composed of calcium sulfate dihydrate. Selenite is a transparent and colorless form of gypsum, known for its glassy appearance and striated crystal structure. Satin spar is a fibrous variety of gypsum that exhibits a silky sheen and fibrous texture. While all three forms of gypsum are composed of the same mineral, their distinct appearances and textures result from variations in crystal structure and formation conditions. Despite their differences, gypsum, satin spar, and selenite share common properties such as being relatively soft (Mohs hardness of 2), having a pearly to vitreous luster, and being commonly used in construction and art such as gemstone carvings.
These satin spar bowls are WYSIWYGs.
For those who are unfamiliar with WYSIWYG, it means: What You See Is What You Get. Pieces identified as WYSIWYGs are not a random pull of stones that are similar to the one(s) pictured. Instead, you receive the actual piece that is pictured.
