One of our favorite suggestions for using lepidolite tumbles in gemstone décor is to add them to a crystal or glass plate, bowl, vase, or other container. You can layer them or use them to surround figurines or other display pieces, too. With all of the colors and variation available in gemstone tumbles and chips, there is almost always a complementary or accent color that will suit your personal style, Southwestern or otherwise.

Learn More About Lepidolite

Lepidolite is a fascinating gemstone. It is part of the mica group and is officially considered part of the polylithionite-trilithionite series. It is a lithium-containing stone. The polylithionite-trilithionite series is a group of closely related mica minerals that share similar crystal structures and chemical compositions. They are distinguished by their varying lithium content. Polylithionite, one endmember of the series, has a higher lithium content, while Trilithionite, the other endmember, has a lower lithium content. Lepidolite, a well-known member of this series, falls somewhere in between these two extremes, making it a lithium-rich mica with a distinct purple or pink color.

Lepidolite is closely related to purple lithium mica which is a general term for a few minerals found in the polylithionite-trilithionite series. The only known differences are the depth of purple coloration and luster which are due in part to how the crystals form. Purple lithium mica tends to have darker purple coloration while lepidolite has pink to purple hues. They are often sold as different stones due to these minor differences. We have both tumbles available at this time. Want to learn more about the polylithionite-trilithionite series? Click this link!
