The chemical composition of red jasper is primarily made up of silicon dioxide (SiO2). Red jasper is a type of chalcedony, a form of microcrystalline quartz. It may also contain varying amounts of other minerals such as iron oxide, hematite, and clay minerals, which contribute to its distinctive red coloration. These impurities give red jasper its characteristic hues ranging from deep red to reddish-brown.
