A Bit About Chlorite

Chlorite used to be its own designation, but now it is considered a group of minerals.

The chlorite group is a diverse group of phyllosilicate minerals, often found in metamorphic and igneous rocks. Their general chemical formula is (Mg,Fe)3(Si,Al)4O10(OH)2·(Mg,Fe)3(OH)6. They are commonly green but can also be yellow, brown, or white.

Chlorite minerals are widespread and can be found in various geological settings. They often form as alteration products of other minerals, such as biotite or pyroxene.

Chlorite can exhibit various growth habits, including:

Foliated masses: Flat, sheet-like structures.
Scaly aggregates: A cluster of small, flaky crystals.
Disseminated flakes: Tiny, scattered crystals within a rock matrix.
