Amethyst is a stunning purple variety of quartz, with the chemical formula SiO2. Its color is caused by trace amounts of iron and is influenced by factors like exposure to natural radiation and heat. Amethyst is found in various locations worldwide, including Brazil, Uruguay, Zambia, and the United States. It often forms in geodes, where it can grow in various habits, such as:

About Agate

Agate is classified as a cryptocrystalline variety of quartz, meaning its crystals are too small to be seen with the naked eye. Its crystal growth habit is typically botryoidal or concentric, forming in layers within cavities or fractures in rocks. Agate’s unique banding and color variations make it highly sought after for use in cabochons, which are polished, domed gemstones without facets. The intricate patterns and colors of agate are showcased beautifully in cabochon form, making them popular for jewelry and ornamental purposes. Learn More About the Amethyst & Agate Combination

This combination is not common as the conditions required to grow both together is not known to occur often. Some have said that this agate is Mexican crazy lace. In many pieces, it sure does appear to be crazy lace agate. Also, it is believed that this unique formation of minerals would be more likely to occur in Mexico because those specific conditions have been possible in that region. We have not been given the location of the mine for these materials. We will update you when we learn more.
